Alkagesta said discussions at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore reflected its own expansion in sustainable fuels, including a five-year UCO feedstock offtake agreement and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp. In a first-party account of its participation, the company described a week of conference sessions and meetings with shipping and marine fuel businesses. This brief is disclosed network-partner coverage based on Alkagesta’s update.
According to Alkagesta, a central conference theme was the shift towards using several fuel types across the shipping industry. Sessions considered how biofuels, methanol and LNG could supplement conventional marine fuels, with different applications depending on vessel type and trade route. The company presented its feedstock and Antwerp storage agreements as examples of sustainable fuel capabilities already being developed within its trading business, rather than announcing new arrangements at the conference.
Supply security was another recurring subject in the company’s account. Participants discussed diversification as a way for operators to manage risk by limiting reliance on a single source of supply. Alkagesta linked those conversations to continuing supply pressures in global energy markets, with access to a broader fuel mix discussed as a means of strengthening resilience.
The conference also examined what would be needed to take shipping decarbonisation beyond pilot projects and into commercial deployment. Alkagesta reported that industry leaders identified clearer regulation, safety frameworks and access to finance as important conditions for that transition. Its summary addressed those enabling conditions without providing figures on investment requirements or fuel demand.
Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov and executives responsible for investments, APAC commodity trading and marine fuel distribution and trading. Alongside the formal programme, the team met shipowners, bunker traders, customers and suppliers. The company said those exchanges supported existing relationships and discussions about potential collaboration across APAC.
